Cranwell Park - Henderson (West)

Walk status: Off-lead and On-lead

Looking for something closer to home, we ended up just down the road at Cranwell Park, hidden behind West Wave aquatic centre. Entering the carpark for West Wave, if you head right to the end you'll reach Cranwell Park. It's a small area of open space, setup with a few picnic tables and with a pathway bordering the edge.

It's not a long walk, but we managed to make a loop that took us around 30mins or so. Looping the park, heading to the left at the fork brings you to a view of the Whau River and a great swimming spot for the dogs in the hot months.

You can continue to loop the park as we did and rejoined the path where we started, or head right at the fork which takes you alongside the bowling club and behind West Wave. Following this path links you to either Tui Glen Reserve over the yellow bridge, or if you continue walking the path you can join up to Falls Park.

We walked down to Falls Park where George had a run around off-lead and then returned back up the path to take the yellow bridge across to Tui Glen Reserve. There is a large kids playground here, but a grass reserve area to the left which you can continue to follow the path along. We turned around at the rotunda overlooking the water and returned back to Cranwell Park.

Although George had met a few dogs on the way and had a run around the park at the start, it wasn't enough of a walk for him so I grabbed a ball from the car and we had a few games to wear him out.

It's a good park if you just want a gentle stroll, or your dog doesn't need a lot of exercise, but for George it wasn't enough. There isn't really a suitable loop to do here either without having to backtrack on yourself a few times.

Location: 20 Alderman Dr, Henderson.
